Hello. My name is Eric Rowland. I live in Luton,
Bedfordshire, and have spent
several
years researching the origins of the Artus family name
and how it became established in the Manchester area. During this time,
I became a member of the Society of Genealogists and made many, many
visits to the Gloucestershire Records Office, the Public Records Office
at Kew, and numerous other places. My research also brought me into
contact with many members of the extended Artus family, worldwide, and
I must express my gratitude to those people who assisted and encouraged
me, particularly Pam Daw, who supplied the photograph of John Artus
with his son Alfred, documentation on the imprisonment of John and William
Artus Jr., and the copies of William Artus's will and inventory.
Also, my
indebtedness to my nephew,
Mark Murray, of Downpatrick, without whose curiosity and prompting this
project would never have been undertaken.
It has been great
fun, and the
result is this site, a collection of documents and pictures which
hopefully explains and - at the same time - entertains.
The aim of this project is to take some of the hard work out of
researching and locating ancestors and relatives with the Artus
surname. There is still a long way to go, but hopefully the objective
will eventually be achieved.
If you think you
are connected to
this branch of the Artus family, or if you have any
information, photographs, etc. regarding the Artus name, I would be
delighted to hear from you.
If
you have any
details concerning births, marriages or deaths not shown on the site, I
would be pleased to include them in the current lists.

Visitors with a family
interest who would
like to have images without the Artus Family History imprint, please contact
me.
